Madison Myles

Madison Myles was born and raised in the Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area.  She will graduate from Howard University in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Maternal and Child Health Education and a minor in Biology.  Growing up, Madison loved hearing about her grandfather’s time serving in the Army and her family’s experience living abroad, which gave her a passion for traveling and learning about different cultures.  One of her favorite trips was to Costa Rica, where she volunteered at the Hacienda Bar Field Station and learned about the local ecosystem while conducting wildlife research.  She and her peers built a hatchery for sea turtles to lay their eggs and learned the importance of sea turtles to the ecosystem and how they help maintain healthy oceans.  Driven by her passion for health equity, Madison recently completed an internship with the Association of State Public Health Nutritionists in their Health Equity Internship Program.  Through this internship, Madison learned practical skills in the Essentials of Public Health Services and Core Competencies of Health Education and Promotion.  She also created an online seminar with other interns highlighting stigmas around addiction and substance use in expecting mothers.  At Howard University, she was a member of the South Africa-USA Community Engagement Exchange Program, where she developed a community engagement plan to bring awareness and destigmatize mental health among middle school-aged students.  Madison was also a member of the U.S. Ambassador Larry Palmer Envoys Program, where she expanded her professional network while interacting with foreign affairs practitioners.  She deepened her knowledge of foreign affairs while understanding the mission and structure of the U.S. Department of State. Madison’s mission is to improve health outcomes for mothers, newborns, and children. She will attend graduate school in the Fall of 2023 and pursue a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Global or Maternal and Child Health. She hopes to work in Global Health, focusing on Maternal and Child Health.
